Features of Sole S77 Treadmill

If you are a serious treadmill user, then the Sole S77 is for you. Including the same quality components you will find in the other models, the Sole S77 also includes a large 3.5 continuous duty HP motor, and an extra long 60″ deck. The Sole S77 is the non-folding version of the Sole F85, and is based on the same frame, so you get a solid and stable feel, backed with an industry leading warranty that is $100 less than the comparable folding model-the Sole F85.

If you know Sole products, then you are aware that the 2 ¾” rollers are a big plus. They will not only extend the life of the rollers, but also the bearings and the belt. Usually this is the size rollers you would find on a $4,000+ treadmill.

Warranty is probably the most impressive feature of the Sole treadmills. Getting a lifetime motor, five-year parts and two-year labor warranty is just another added bonus to the Sole S77. The two-year service coverage is generous, and it is nice knowing for the first two years any problems are not your problems.

Additional Sole S77 treadmill features include:

• Wireless Heart Rate Control – HRC is used by many professional athletes, so be sure to use your heart rate to get the optimum workout.
• Built-in Speakers – Not having to mess with headphones as you are sweating bullets is a plus. These are not Bose quality, but it is nice having speakers directed right at you while exercise so you can plug in your MP3 or iPod player
• 250 lb. Unit Weight – Get the inside delivery option or you will be sorry you didn’t. The weight on the Sole S77 is equivalent to many commercial models, which gives a very stable and solid feel. However, you do not want to move this treadmill on your own.
• LED Console and Display – Having six feedback windows, a progression chart and a scrolling board for clear instructions, Sole put in some thought into the design and layout of this console.

For all you runners, you will really appreciate the extra long belt, which is great for sprints and interval training.

For those who are into some serious training, the 3.5 continuous duty motor will provide that extra power you’ll need. This size motor will never strain unless you are a sumo wrestler.

For those who want the most for your money, then the Sole S77 is for you. The Sole S77 was built with high quality at a very reasonable price. Having recently purchased a Sole F85 myself, if I were in the market for a treadmill, this is the model I would choose if I did not need a folding model to fit in my bedroom.

Introduction and Review of Proform Treadmill

Considering a Proform treadmill? Proform home treadmills are some of the most popular budget treadmills on the market today. Proform offers a huge range of treadmills, mostly under $1000 with lots of fitness tracking tools and some cool new workout programs.

Proform is owned and operated by ICON Health and Fitness – one of the largest fitness equipment manufactures in the industry. They also own brands like Nordic Track, Reebok, Epic, Image and Weslo.

Although Proform treadmills used to be made quite poorly, ICON has really worked over the last few years to revitalize and improve on the brand.

But are these treadmills a good buy for you? Here’s a quick review of the Pros and Cons of the Proform brand to help you make up your mind.

Pros:

1) Affordable – Obviously one of the main strengths of these treadmills is that they are affordable since they range in price from around $400 and up.

Many buyers these days are on a budget and Proform offers a huge range of affordable options to choose from. Plus in the budget treadmill market (under $500), when you compare them to other brands, Proform units tend to give you more for your money (better warranties, more workout programs, etc.)

2) Improved Models – Many of the new Proform models have improved from the old days of 90 day warranties and short belt sizes.

Over the past couple of years, motor powers have improved, belt sizes have gotten bigger, and warranties have gotten longer – proof of improved construction.

3) Great Fitness Tracking Tools – Proform home treadmills offer a lot of little “extras” to help you get more out of your workout like:

- iFit compatibility (where you can download new workout programs to your treadmill from the Internet or get new workouts from a card that you plug into the console)

- Built-in Fitness assessments and progress tracking tools

- Specialized cross training & calorie burning workouts

- Upper body arm bars (on the Crosswalk models)

- Handweights

- Customizable and Create-Your-Own Workouts

These tools can be help you track your progress and push you to the next level.

Cons:

ICON/Proform has a lot of resources and they can probably build a better budget treadmill than anyone else. However a cheap treadmill is still a cheap treadmill.

Any treadmill under $600 is not best for runners and/or frequent use. It just won’t give you the kind of cushioning and construction quality to last under heavy or prolonged use.

Overall, if you’re going to buy a Proform, the newer, higher end models give you stronger motor powers, better cushioning and longer warranties.

Conclusion:

Proform makes a wide range of treadmills that are affordable if you’re on a budget. Plus they come with some cool fitness tools you won’t find on other brands.

They have also vastly improved in terms of construction, motor power and warranty over the years.

Keep in mind that some of the economy units (under $600) still lack the core essentials of a good value treadmill (high motor power, extensive warranty, large walking space, quality cushioning, etc.)

Overall, you might want to consider the higher end models with stronger motor powers, larger walking areas and better warranties first.

Nordictrack Fitness Bikes Review

NordicTrack are a popular brand of exercise bike. They are popular because they come with one of the best consoles on any bike – certainly for a machine under a $1,000. But, are they a good machine overall, what sort of user do they appeal to, and what kinds of rating do customers give NordicTrack exercise bikes? The answers you get depend on the model of machine.

Most people can’t afford or justify paying more than a thousand dollars on a LifeCycle or Schwinn exercise bike. The biggest market for this type of fitness equipment is around the $500 mark and this is the niche that NordicTrack exercise bikes fall in to.

The most popular model is the AudioRider U300 bike; it’s also the cheapest, retailing for around $400. It’s an upright model and, for its price, you do get a lot of features. As you would expect it has magnetic resistance and it runs smoothly and quietly. The console really is the big plus point about this machine. It’s large, well laid out and easy to use; someone has described it as being like the dashboard of your car, which is a very good analogy. It displays the usual feedback data of time, speed, distance, resistance, pulse, RPM, carbs burned and calories burned. The handlebars have grip sensors to monitor heart rate and the seat is nicely cushioned. Another great feature is the AutoBreeze Workout Fan, which automatically adjusts the airflow to match your speed.

Getting to the more important features, you get 20 built-in workouts; 18 Personal Trainer workouts and 2 Heart Rate workouts. The personal trainer workouts will automatically adjust both pace and resistance during the workout to maintain the best optimized settings for aerobic, weight loss, or performance goals.

Many, especially first-timers, need motivation. It’s now quite common for all sorts of exercise equipment to be fitted with iFIT card technology. Each card is designed by a certified personal trainer and plugs directly into the bike’s console. During the workout, the trainer’s voice can be heard over the load speaker, helping you to achieve your specific goals. You can also download iFIT programs off the internet.

The bike also comes with Interactive Audio CrossTrainer, which is an interactive fitness coach that verbally and visually prompts you to perform a variety of strength-training and calorie burning exercises.

The AudioRider U300 is a great piece of kit however it really has been designed for casual or entry-level users. Those who are serious about bike training may find this machine lacks teeth. For instance, the position of seat and handle bars results in a sit-up-and-beg position. For more demanding training many prefer a more trapezoidal position with the hips up and shoulders down.

The AudioRider U400 is the same as the U300 except that it is a recumbent exercise bike. The features and workout programs are pretty much the same. It costs an additional $100. These bikes in which the user is in a reclined position are proving to be increasingly popular as they are more comfortable for those who have lower back problems or those who are overweight.

Lastly, there is the NordicTrack SL710 recumbent exercise bike. It retails for a little less than the U400. Personally, you are better off spending the extra and getting the U400. You only get 8 rather than 10 programs and the user weight capacity drops from 300 lbs to 250 lbs. The biggest claimed benefit of this bike is the Step-In design – this is where the center of the bike has been designed to be as near the ground as possible making it easy to get on and off the bike. The only reason to buy this model would be because you find it difficult to get on and off a more conventional recumbent.

In conclusion NordicTrack bikes are great value for money. If you’re a first time user or need something with a lot of motivational features then you should take a close look at these machines. However, if you’re a seasoned pro you should be looking at something a little more substantial like a Schwinn exercise bike.

Selecting the Best Cardio Workout Machines

When studying which cardio machine is best for you, you have to do a lot of research. You don’t want to walk into a gym and use a treadmill, because it was the only exercise machine free and then buy it because you liked it. You have to study which cardio machine will benefit you better than the others.

For example if you have weak legs or weak knees, then you won’t want to excessively exercise them by using an exercise bike. Instead a treadmill might be the perfect option. Because you can start off on a lower walking speed, and then when the knee or leg starts to get stronger, then you can pick up the pace and start to gradually strengthen the area that was weak.

In this article I am going to look at cardio machines and see which one is best for home users. Also you will discover which one is perfect for you.

Cardio machines are the perfect exercise equipment to use when working out. Cardio workouts are a great way to keep your lungs and more importantly your heart in good shape. When using cardio machines you will also burn calories and fat, plus boost your energy simply by using cardio machines as part of your daily exercise. One cardio machine to use is a treadmill. We all know how expensive treadmills can be but it is a cardio machine and you know that you are going to have a healthy heart in no time.

One prime thing to remember for when you are thinking about buying cardio exercise equipment is the room required for your cardio equipment. Treadmills and exercise bikes are all well and good. But if you do not have the space for these pieces of equipment then you would have wasted a lot of money. There are other pieces of cardio equipment that are a lot smaller and still do the same work on your body.

One piece of cardio exercise equipment that doesn’t take up a lot of space is the Both Sides Up ball (BOSU.) This is a very small piece of exercise equipment and allows you to perform exercises with ease. The BOSU is also a very cheap piece of equipment usually costing around $10-$20.

A rowing machine will also not take up too much space but once again the cost can be a factor when it comes to deciding on a purchase. A rowing machine will exercise your upper body and keep you toned. If you can ignore the fact that you aren’t actually moving but staying within the same scenery then maybe a rowing machine is a good choice for you.

Overall Cardio exercises are essential to keeping a healthy heart. But it is up to you which cardio exercise equipment you choose to have in your home. You will need to weight up the advantages and disadvantages of each piece of equipment. If you see a personal trainer or even a doctor they will be able to give you the right advice on which piece of cardio exercise equipment will be best for you.

Using Kettlebells as Fitness Equipments

I used to love going to the gym. As an office worker it was my sanctuary, the place I went to when I wanted to sweat my stresses away. And also do a bit of socializing – all those like minded people. At the time it was a good thing, but now I realise that spending hours working out was preventing me from getting the incredible results that I could achieve.

As a trainer, my love for the gym waned rapidly. The lighting, the incessant repetitive music, the fact that most people jump on machines thinking that they will get results by just attending, the mindless plodding away on a cross trainer while watching TV…

As a freelance trainer, I began to get much more creative. Skipping, boxing, bodyweight exercises all began to feature more in my programmes, as I didn’t have the ‘fall back’ of all the shiny gym equipment.

But, despite seemingly ‘compromising’ I began to get better and better results! The workouts were more fun and dynamic, and could be done absolutely anywhere. Both me and my clients were benefitting from the fresh air and wellbeing effects of the great outdoors.

However, it was not until I discovered kettlebells that my clients (and my) results began to skyrocket. I invested in a selection and cleared space in the garage. I bought a few DVDs and was blown away! I was not even moving from the small space I had in the garage, yet I was getting the best workouts of my life.

Kettlebells allow you workout in numerous different ways, all with the same tool. You can work strength, strength-endurance, endurance, power and flexibility all with one object. The key is manipulating the set and rest periods, or the way you are holding the kettlebell.

Review of Abdominal Machines and Equipments

Whenever we turn on the TV we see commercials for one abdominal machine or another. But do these abs exercisers really work or is there a better way to get flat abs?

Of course, I haven’t tried all of the abs machines in the world. Many of them are just complete rip-offs. Some are better than others. However, I believe that abdominal machines as a whole aren’t the best way to get flat abs. In fact, I believe they’re an expensive way to get mediocre results at best.

Let’s see what are the major problems with abdominal machines:

1. The tend to break just like any machine does. Usually, you can’t repair them. You just need to throw them out, so they’re a temporary measure at best.

2. They take room, accumulate dust – Any machine in your house means less room for you. And no, having a machine in the house doesn’t mean that you will workout more. There are a ton of people who simply use their exercise machines as a clothes rack.

3. Abdominal machines usually offer only a limited range of resistance so that if you’re even moderately fit, they become less effective for you.

4. Even though some abdominal machines can be fitted to different body types, they always fall short in some way. Therefore, it is not surprising to find an abs machine which is supposed to give you neck support which in fact is putting even more pressure on your neck. Let’s just say that machines aren’t as flexible as working on a mat.

5. The main problem with abs machines is that they focus on the exercise aspect and not on the nutritional aspect. This is like trying to stand on one leg for a really long time: you’re going to fall down eventually. Nutrition is the most important factor if you want to lose belly fat and get flat abs. Machines just don’t cut it. In that sense, they’re selling you a dream which they can’t fulfill.

The solution is to stop using machines and stary focusing on having the right kind of knowledge about fitness and nutrition which will give you those flat abs you’ve always wanted. This is the option I’ve chosen and it has worked for me. I know it can work for you too.

Review of Schwinn Airdyne Fitness Bike

The Schwinn Airdyne exercise bike is still a favorite exercise machine even after 30 plus years in the Schwinn product line. Exercise bikes continue to sell well even though there are new exercise machines constantly coming on the market. Fad machines come and go, but exercise machines continue to sell simply because they work.

I have owned an Airdyne for over ten years and have put my machine through some hard use. Here are some of the reasons why Schwinn continues to sell a lot of these machines after all this time.

  • The design is simple. Minimum of gadgets to tear up and quit working.
  • Heavy duty construction. Used in many gyms.
  • No complicated drives or electronics.
  • Fan resistance for more resistance the faster you pedal.
  • Work both your legs and your arms.
  • Made to last.
  • Moderate price. Not cheap, but a good value.
  • No training required. Just get on and pedal.

The newest version of the Airdyne is the Schwinn Airdyne Evolution Comp. This bike design is an attempt to improve on the weak points of the standard bike. One of the main weak points is the fan noise. It isn’t easy to listen to music while you ride an Air dyne. The Evolution Comp has a much smaller resistance fan plus the drive is by belt instead of chain. It’s quieter.

Another weakness of the Airdyne is the lack of electronics. Many electronic features of comparably priced exercise bikes are lacking on the Schwinn. Then again maybe you don’t want or need pre-programmed exercise workouts, especially when you consider the cost to repair computers if they fail.

If you want a simple, durable exercise bike that will last for many years with little or no maintenance, the Schwinn Airdyne exercise bike should be one you look at.

Review and Specification of Split Belt Treadmills

Split belt treadmills were originally designed to help stroke victims learn to walk again. They were introduced as part of the rehab process after researchers discovered that the body contained separate nerve networks directing the movements of each leg. There is another device researchers are using to study and improve the human gait and that’s called the force sensing treadmill. Let’s take a quick look at each:

Split Belt (Side-by-Side)

Scientists have found that our legs can be taught to function almost independently of each other. This discovery has lead to putting test subjects on split belt treadmills in which one side of the belt moves at a different speed than the other. Or, one side can move one foot back while the other moves forward. Using this machine, stroke patients, and others with incomplete spinal cord or brain injuries are having their brains “re-wire” themselves to mimic normal leg control.

Decades ago, doctors thought that the brain could not learn again once function was lost. Yet recent research has proven that the brain has the ability to acquire new skills and knowledge through repetition and instruction. Doctors have now learned that the right circuitry for walking still may exist in the damaged brains of many patients. This dormant system can be challenged by movements of the legs on the split belt treadmills to reawaken the old gait.

How it works: Your brain constantly and automatically tries to adjust your skeletal structure to keep you upright. The ability to teach the brain to learn through repeating motor skills is the phenomena known as neuroplasticity. In this case, it’s related to reorganizing neuro pathways to achieve lower body movement. The central nervous system is retrained to adopt walking motions – at least during the time spent on the treadmill and for a short time afterward.

Treadmills have long been used in therapy and conditioning of rehab patients. Relearning coordination as a result of a few sessions with these split belt treadmills are at the heart of the methodology. Patients work on leg muscle development and range of motion, swing phase duration of the leg and foot clearance.

Force Sensing Treadmill (One Belt in Front of Another)

Another innovative design is the force sensing treadmill which is used in scientific studies as a gait analysis system to measure the force of footfalls separately and accurately. Developed for the U.S. Army at its Research Institute of Environmental Medicine, researchers can determine the pressure each foot is exerting while walking or running.

The Force Sensing Treadmill, built by Advanced Mechanical Technology Inc. of Watertown, Mass., positions two belts on the front and back of the deck rather than side by side. Again, it resembles a regular treadmill but if you look closely it has a break between the two belts. Each force platform is attached to a common chassis. The belts move around their perspective rollers at the same speed while sensors collect data when each foot strikes the belt during a walk or run. Like a regular treadmill, speeds up to 11 mph are possible and it even has an incline ramp up to 25 percent.

Now that the torque of the footfalls can be measured and analyzed separately, researchers are able to study the gait biomechanics. The subject walks normally on the belts and would feel no difference from walking on a regular treadmill. The force sensing treadmill then records 3-D forces and torques on each foot during the durations when either foot is in contact with the belt. Since both feet never strike the same belt at the same time, the force strike can be measured more accurately. Thousands of data points per second are recorded by the platform as well as video cameras for analysis.

The split belt treadmills and the specialized force sensing treadmill are at the forefront of biomechanical technology. Relearning coordination and advancing locomotor skills are just the beginning of what these researchers hope to achieve with these machines.
